AN END TO TRIBUNAL FEES
The Supreme Court has recently ruled ( July 2017 ) that the practice of charging fees to make a claim in the Employment Tribunal, which had been in place since July 2013, was unlawful and therefore there will no longer be a court fee for either bringing the claim or for having the case set down for a hearing. This is a very significant development, as the total cost was often £1200 and proved to be quite off putting to claimants, indeed the amount of claims in the Employment Tribunal declined by circa 70% as a result. The Government have said that they will reimburse any fees that have been paid out over the last 4 years and a public announcement is expected shortly on how people can claim these sums.
